چکیده

A field experiment was conducted during 2018–19 and 2019–20 at the research farm of ICAR-Directorate Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan to evaluate effect organic inorganic nitrogen sources on yield, water productivity, system productivity economics maize (Zea mays L.)-mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.] cropping system. The in split-plot design with recommended levels fertilizers (RDF)/FYM/biofertilizer/mustard straw/Jivamrat main-plots doses (RDN) 100, 125 150% sub-plots Indian mustard replicated thrice. Application RDF + FYM @2.5 t/ha Azotobacter straw recorded highest SCMR (41.2), leaf area index (4.42), number siliqua/ plant (440.7), seeds/siliqua (18.4), test weight (5.83 g) seed yield (3.36 t/ha) mustard. RDN physiological attributes (3.22 Results also showed grain (3.73 RDF+FYM t/ ha+Azotobacter+mustard t/ha. System (4.84 (2.14 kg seed/m3) were found higher +Azotobacter+mustard 150%. net monetary return 51715, 81040 132755 `/ha B:C ratio 3.09, 3.22 3.15 for maize, t/ha+Azotobacter+mustard 150%, respectively. Thus, integrated use @150% improved maize–mustard profitability under semi-arid climates.

Nitrogen management strategies for smallholder maize production systems: Yield and profitability variability

Maize (Zea mays L.) production requires large amounts of nitrogen (N) thatdirectly affect production cost. Poultry litter can be used as an alternative source ofN. To optimize its use, poultry litter requires technical and economic feasibilityanalyses. Crop simulation models have proven to be efficient tools to support thistype of research. The objectives of this study were to determine yield a...

Modeling nitrogen and water management effects in a wheat-maize double-cropping system.

Excessive N and water use in agriculture causes environmental degradation and can potentially jeopardize the sustainability of the system. A field study was conducted from 2000 to 2002 to study the effects of four N treatments (0, 100, 200, and 300 kg N ha(-1) per crop) on a wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and maize (Zea mays L.) double cropping system under 70 +/- 15% field capacity in the North ...

Increasing Cropping System Diversity Balances Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health

Balancing productivity, profitability, and environmental health is a key challenge for agricultural sustainability. Most crop production systems in the United States are characterized by low species and management diversity, high use of fossil energy and agrichemicals, and large negative impacts on the environment. We hypothesized that cropping system diversification would promote ecosystem ser...

Impact of water and nitrogen management strategies on maize yield and water productivity indices under linear-move sprinkler irrigation

With uncertainty in future irrigation water availability and regulations on nutrient application amounts, experimentally determined effects of “controllable” management strategies such as nitrogen (N), water, and their combination on crop water productivity (CWP, also known as crop water use efficiency) and actual evapotranspiration (ETa) are essential. The effects of various N application rate...
